Who doesn’t love a homemade hamburger bun? These are the easiest homemade hamburger buns that taste so fresh, and satisfying. They are fluffy, and can be used as rolls, or buns. I make them for hamburgers, and then I use the leftovers the next day for sandwiches, or to go with another meal. They require minimal ingredients, and work, not a lot of rise time, and they have a short baking time. If you double the recipe, you can have left overs, and have sandwiches the next night. I am all about making something once, and using it for multiple meals.
This is also a recipe you can make hot dog bus, or hoagie rolls out of. After the rise, shape them into whatever shape you desire. There are so many different meals you can use these for; sandwiches, pulled pork or chicken, dipping for soup or broth, hot dogs or brats, or even just toasting and putting some good butter and honey on it.
At our house we are all about eating real food and it’s worth the extra time to spend on making healthy homemade meals. If you haven’t ever looked at the back of bread there is always extra ingredients for preserving. Other ingredients, I often wonder why they actually put it in, most of the time it doesn’t make sense other than for filler.
It’s simple to make extra, freeze them, and take the bread out when you need it. That is why I love making these easy homemade hamburger buns. They’re simple, can be frozen, used for multiple meals, and they’re SO good, and fluffy!

How To Make Homemade Buns
Proof the yeast by adding 1 cup warm water. You want it hot but not too hot that it kills the yeast, about 102 degrees is good. Add 1 heaping TBSP honey and dissolve in the hot water. Add 1 packet or 2 1/4 tsp of yeast to the water. Wait till it has bubbled up and is active. This takes about 5-8 minutes for it to be fully active.
.
Add 1 egg, 2 TBSP soft butter, 3 cups of flour, and 1/2 tsp of baking soda. The baking soda is optional but I like it because it makes the buns fluffier and more airy.
Mix until everything is well combined and form a ball. The dough should be sticky but in a ball and not sticking to your hands. If it is, add more flour. If its too dry add small amounts of water to get to the desired texture.
Once its mixed and in a ball, grease a bowl, and cover with plastic wrap, about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size. Depending on the temperature of your house, it may vary.
Once it has doubled, shape into balls about 3-4 inches, and place on a baking sheet, lined with parchment paper. It should make about 9 buns depending on the size you shaped. I like to make all different sizes for the kids, and adults. Cover with a towel and let them rise for 45 minutes. The longer the better as they will get bigger and fluffier.

After they have risen, or are the desired size, they are ready to bake. You can do an egg wash over the top if desired by mixing 1 egg yolk with 1 TBSP of water and brushing it over the tops.
Bake at 375 degrees for 10-12 minutes
