This is the most delicious homemade sundried tomato basil hummus and its SO simple to make! It only has 5 ingredients and it takes minimal time. It’s so much healthier than the store bought and much cheaper. There are many versions you can make but one of my favorite is sundried tomato and basil. It gives it such a fresh taste and it pairs well with vegetables, crackers, meat or cheese.
This is a great appetizer for a party, a snack or a full on meal! It’s very versatile and seems to be a crowd pleaser. Because of the garbanzo beans it’s high in protein and very filling. I love this snack or meal for my kids because I know its healthy and fills them up!
Ingredients:
- Garbanzo beans/chickpeas- The base of the hummus. No need for them to be peeled they will blend right up.
- Lemon- A fresh lemon, juiced.
- Cumin- To add some extra flavor
- Sundried Tomatoes- They can be in oil or just dried. Either works.
- Basil- Fresh basil taste best and gives it the most flavor but you can add dried as well.
How To Make Sundried Tomato Basil Hummus
You can use a blender or a food processor. Which ever you have will work you just might have to stir it a couple times in a blender.
- Start by draining the juice from the beans into a separate cup. Then pour all the beans into food processor or blender.
- Add half the sundried tomatoes, basil, cumin and lemon juice.
- Start blending until it starts to come together. Add aquafaba which is the juice from the beans you put into a separate cup. Add small amounts about a tablespoon at a time until you’ve reached the desired thickness. Blend about 4-5 minutes to get the smooth consistency.
- Put in the remainder of the sundried tomatoes and pulse so there are still chunks and they are not all the way blended. If you would like, add sundried tomatoes and basil on top for garnish.
- Serve in a bowl with vegetables and crackers!

Ways To Eat Hummus
While all these flavors of hummus are great for dipping they’re also delicious to use in other meals as well. Here are some ways we love to eat hummus…
- Sandwich– Use the hummus as the condiment. It will add great flavor and texture.
- Toast– Just lather it on a piece of toast with some avocado or drizzle olive oil on top.
- Salad– I love to put a spoonful or two in my salad to add extra flavor and texture. It helps to change up the salad.
