These homemade flour tortillas are so buttery, they melt in your mouth. I bet you wont be able to eat just one! They are a family favorite and so simple to make. Plus, they are so much better than store bought and have minimal ingredients.

Have you ever looked at the ingredients of store bought tortillas? There is something so satisfying about homemade flour tortillas and I love that we don’t have to worry about what’s in them. These tortillas are so delicious you can eat them with just butter!
Why you will love this recipe:
- They’re healthier! You get to see exactly what is put into these.

- You can add these to so many meals, it makes dinners easy.

Things you will need:
A large bowl
Spatula or spoon
Measuring cups

What can you use these homemade tortillas with?
Another reason I love these tortillas is because of how many different meals I can make with them. We never get tired of them! Also, when I roll them out I make several different sizes. A few things we use these for are tacos, burritos, quesadillas, casseroles or tortilla chips. Sometimes my kids will just ask for one with butter on it! They can even be used for a simple dessert, by putting butter cinnamon and sugar on them.
How to make homemade tortillas:
Add 3 1/2 cups flour, 1 TBSP baking powder and 1 1/2 tsp of salt in bowl and mix together.

Melt 1 stick or 1/2 cup butter. Add the butter and 1 1/4 cup water to the dry mixture. Mix thoroughly until all the flour is incorporated about 5 minutes. If it’s too sticky add flour, if it’s too dry add a small amount of flour.

Once mixed together, make it into a ball. Cover with plastic wrap for 30 minutes. Don’t use a towel- it wont keep enough moisture in the bowl.

After 30 minutes, roll the dough into smaller balls. The size of balls will depend on whether you want burrito or taco size. I usually do a mix of both for kids and adults. Cover with plastic wrap again and let it sit for 20 more minutes.

Now the tortillas are ready to be rolled out! I find it easier to press them in a tortilla press first and then roll them out because it gives you the basic shape.

When rolling them out, flour the surface and press several out at a time. It makes it quicker and easier when cooking them. If they stick to the rolling pin or counter top, add small amounts of flour.

Once they’re rolled out, they’re ready to be cooked!

Cook the tortillas on each side for 30 seconds or until they’re golden brown. If making several batches, you can get several pans out to cook them all at once. Let them cool on a cooling wrack and then place them in an air tight container.
How long are the tortillas good for?
They can be placed in the freezer for 3 months or in an airtight container for 5 days.
